Isle of Palms Trip 2011

I am so very behind on blogging and am going to make an attempt to catch up.  We'll see how this goes! These are from awhile back but I'm going to try to go in order...

The first week of October we took what has become our annual trip with Geoff's family to the Isle of Palms.  We had a great week there with beautiful weather and lots of fun!  Uncle Pete came for the 1st half of the week and Quinn and Riley just loved having him around, as well as Grammie and Pop.  We love going in October, it's not crowded, and the weather is beautiful.  It was a little chilly at the beginning of the week so we went into downtown Charleston, explored Boone Hall Pumpkin Patch, and played at the Palmetto Islands State Park playground.  As the week warmed up it was perfect for spending days on the beach, without getting too hot!

Quinn loved the beach, playing in the sand, and the water.  Riley was a different story, at least at the beginning of the week.  She didn't like the sand on her feet, we had to force her to walk on it.  She didn't care much for the waves and water at first either.  However, by the end of the week she was playing in the sand and telling us she wanted to go walk in the water and let the water tickle her toes.  She would walk and say "I like it, I like it" I guess convincing herself that she did in fact like it!  We had great family time and enjoyed such a relaxing vacation!

Two and a Half (and then some)

So Quinn and Riley were 2 1/2 last month and I thought I should post about what they have been up to.  I feel like they have grown up so much in the past 6 months.  About a month after their 2nd birthday both of them just exploded with their language, full sentences and new thoughts, ideas, phrases all the time.  So they were able to "graduate" from speech.  It was a big deal considering one or both of them have been seen weekly for a service (physical therapy/speech) since they were 6 months.

They say the funniest things.  The other day Riley told us she had a bug in her pj's, when I told her there was no bug in there she responds with "it's tiny" as if it's too small for me to see it!  Quinn frequently says "oh my goodness" about any number of situations.  I think he hears that from mommy often.  They talk about "baby in mommy's tummy" and Riley has declared that she has a baby in her tummy too.  They also will come give baby a hug and tell baby "I love you baby".  It's so precious and I only pray that they continue to feel love and affection for their baby brother or sister.  They both usually claim that they want a baby sister when asked, so we will see if they have any premonition there.

I also got the kids to get on the scale and measured their height when they turned 2 and a half.  Quinn weighed 38.5 pounds and is 38 inches.  Riley weighed 27.5 pounds and is 36 inches.  This summer Quinn has been in 3T and 4T while Riley has many pairs of shorts and skirts that are 18 months and fit her perfectly in the waist.  She does wear 2T dresses and shirts.

They both love love love to play outside and these hot days have been hard.  However, as we are starting to get some cooler days they are loving all their outdoor time.  They also love to go to Chick fil a, or "chick a la" as they say it, Target, the grocery store (where they get cookies), the zoo, the mall (to play in the play area), and Monkey Joe's!  We frequent them all and if we haven't in awhile they will ask to go.  Today we had breakfast at Chick-fil-a and Riley told Geoff as he got her in the car, "Thank you take me Chick a la Daddy." Then she asked, "Go Chick a la again?" He replied, "not today" and she said, "Don't have money?"  Which is what I have told her when they ask on a daily basis to go to "Chick a la".  She has a great memory that's for sure.

Tonight was one of those super sweet moments that reminds me how truly blessed I am.  As I was telling Riley goodnight she wanted to sing "Jesus Love Me" to baby in my tummy.  It was so sweet as she sang to her baby brother or sister and I know this baby is going to get lots of singing and love from his or her big sister!  Then when I was telling Quinn goodnight he leaned into my ear and whispered, "I love you so much" which is something that Geoff started and we tell each other as a family all the time.  It's just that usually Geoff or I start it and the kids will say it back but Quinn said it all on his own.  He is a sweet boy and just melts my heart!  I love being their mommy and feel so blessed that we have another baby on the way!

Here's some cute pictures from life lately.
Our little cheerleader in pig tails!  Love her curly hair!

We've been to the zoo every chance we get.

They are now champions at cartoon watching!

We met my brother, Joe, and his wife, Jana, at the lake to go out on their new boat!

The kids went on a boat when they were babies, so this was their 1st trip that they knew of!

They loved swimming in the water

Thank you Uncle Joe and Aunt Jana for a great day of fun!

These kids also love to dance.  Quinn will go to the stereo and ask me to turn the music on!

They started preschool this year.  Just going one day a week but they seem to be enjoying it!

They will give each other the sweetest hugs!
(and then fight like crazy in the next moment, siblings!)

We are so blessed!
