We had our youngest vistor today: our new nephew Evan who was born only 8 days ago! Evan even styled his hair himself for the occasion. Brenna's parents have had quite an eventful week with the births of 3 new grandchildren.

We had a great afternoon. Riley's wonderful nurse, Barbara, took Riley out of the isolette and let Brenna hold her again! Riley was looking up at her with big open eyes! This is the widest we've seen her eyes yet.

Saturday Update

Hi guys - Em again with an update but check back in later tonight and you might get to see some new pictures!

Babies are doing well though there have been a few changes. Both Riley and Quinn have developed some slight jaundice and getting to take a little sunbath(with the billi light)!! Their levels aren't too bad so not anything to be overly concerned about but pray that their levels get back in normal range before they get stuck with a "glowworm" nickname!!

Quinn had a really good night and didn't require much oxygen through the night. He has needed around 30% today but the doctors really like that he had a good night and an extended time of not needing it. The plan with him is to do a 72 hour monitoring and if there isn't improvement then they will decide if they want to change is respiratory therapy or give him some medicine to help further develop his lungs. Quinn is tolerating his feedings through the tube very well and has increased from 10cc to 20cc's and will go to 30cc tomorrow most likely. They also plan on taking him off of his IV tomorrow since he is getting enough fluids through feedings. Yea!!!

Riley is also tolerating her feedings but they will increase her amount much more slowly since she is so tiny. Slow and steady is good for her. Riley had some irregular heartbeats last night so they have been monitoring her through and EKG machine. The doctor told them this can be relatively common for babies her size and that the results from the EKG looked good. They don't see a pattern or a frequency that alarms them at this point. Brenna and Geoff are both so thankful that they are being so thorough and taking such good care of both Riley and Quinn.

Both babies are coming off their antibiotics as all of their blood work is looking great!! Another great praise.

Brenna and Geoff got some good rest last night and said that was very helpful.

Some specific prayer requests:

* Pray that their billirubin levels would get back to normal and that they can come off the light therapy soon.

* Pray that Riley's heartbeats will stabilize and that there will not be need for any intervention or more monitoring for very long.

* Pray that Quinn continues to have periods of time of not needing oxygen and comes completely off of it and the CPAP without needing a change in therapy or medications

* Pray that both babies continue to tolerate feedings well and that Riley in particular begins to put on steady weight. Pray that Brenna will soon be able to provide enough milk for the babies so that they can come off their formula supplement.

Update, Thank You & More Pictures!!!

Geoff here. Brenna and I both got to hold Riley today. Words cannot describe the overwhelming joy we felt!!! We were both looking down on her with tear-filled eyes. Brenna also got to change one of Quinn's diapers this afternoon; he made it a poopy one and then christened her a little bit!

Quinn is doing about the same, but tonight Riley was moved from the critical area of the NICU to the NICU's special nursery. The doctors and nurses are taking great care of our babies, and they have shown great patience in putting up with my 10 million (and counting) questions.

We want to thank everyone for your love and support. Our journey through infertility, pregnancy, and now premy delivery have shown us that we have an amazing support system of friends and family. We cannot thank you enough for your love, support, encouragement, blog comments, emails, phone calls, flowers, balloons, cards, baby gifts, meals, coffee, fill-in blogging, dog sitting, clothes washing, closet-raiding, infant carrier finding, premy clothes-buying, work-diverting and all the other wonderful things you have done for us! Most of all thank you for continuing to bathe us in your prayers. God is truly at work in forming and growing our little ones! We also want to give a very special thanks to our parents, Ed and Darcey and Jim and Shirley, for how amazing they have been!

Baby update

Hi guys- Emily here again...

Geoff might get some pictures up later tonight if he has time but I wanted to just go ahead and give a real quick update so you guys would know how to pray for them.

Brenna is feeling good and has been able to spend more time with the babies today.

Riley is doing very well!! Brenna might even get to hold her tonight!!

Quinn continues to do well but did have to go back on oxygen today. He is just needing a little help as his lungs just aren't quite strong enough or opening up enough yet. Doctors still feel like he'll recover soon. If he doesn't improve in a few days they will give him some medicine to help but for now they feel like he just needs a little more time. Geoff did get to change Quinn's diaper today!!!

Both babies should start feeding soon. Just for a good weight comparison - they will start Riley on 1.5 cc's and Quinn on 10 cc's!!!!

Continue to pray for strengthening of Quinn's lungs and that as they start eating they will both tolerate that well. Pray that Riley will gain weight quickly!!!

Brenna & Babies!!!

Brenna was able to go this afternoon to see Riley and Quinn. The nurses were very accommodating as Brenna still has her IV and all and said it's the fastest she's ever had someone get up after a c-section. When I spoke to Brenna tonight she said that seeing them was by far the best "medicine" she received all day!!!

Brenna said that the nurses flipped Riley on her back so that Brenna could see her and that she began wailing. When Brenna touched Riley, Riley calmed... already knows her mommy!! What a blessing for Brenna to have that moment with Riley today.

Brenna was able to spend about 50 min. in the NICU with them today. She is doing well and her pain is being managed well too. She sounded great!! They are tired but are resting now in their rooms. Brenna should get the clear in the morning to be able to be up and in the NICU more often. She hasn't gotten to hold them yet but as they see how they do in the next day or so she should be able too soon.

Riley and Quinn are doing well. Quinn is still off of oxygen and on the CPAP to help with his lungs since they still need a little more developing. They said they would try taking him off a little tomorrow most likely and see how he does. They really expect just a few days for him to "catch up" and he might soon get to go to the next level down nursery. He is in an "open" crib( i think with a warming bed or light) as he is maintaining his temperature well.

The doctors all say that Riley looks really good too - she just needs to put on some weight so she'll be able to hold her temperature on her own as well.

Continued praises for how they are doing and prayers that things just keep improving!!! Pray for good rest for Brenna and Geoff tonight after their long and exciting day!! As they move into the 2nd 24 hours, pray that Riley and Quinn tolerate their feedings well.

** Also, in case some of you saw it before the correction - the nurses had originally written down Riley's length wrong and she was 15 3/8 inches, not 14 3/8 inches. We'll take every inch!!!!

Pictures!!! and Update

Hey its Geoff. The babies are doing well. X-rays came back. Riley's lungs look great - no problems. Quinn has a little respiratory distress, but the doctors expect it to clear up in a few days. He's already off of oxygen and is just on the CPAP to help his lungs develop. Brenna is resting and recovering well. Praise God for these blessings!!!

Both babies are doing pretty well. They are both in the NICU. Quinn is receiving some oxygen through CPAP. They had prepared them that because Quinn was doing so well in the womb that it might be a little bit of a shock for him out here. He is stable and doing well though and the thought is that the oxygen is just to get him through the transistion. It is hard to tell yet how long Quinn will have to be in the NICU and will just depend on how he does over the next few days coming off the oxygen.

Riley is breathing on her own and is not showing any signs of distress. What a little fighter!!! She will most likely have to stay in the NICU for several weeks because of her petite size. They will need to see a good pattern of growth in her before she is ready to come home. Geoff said she has a precious little face and that the nurses are all calling her, "baby doll!"

They are waiting for the xrays to come back to check for lung development but right now no one is giving cause for concern or alarm with either baby.

Brenna is doing well and coming out of recovery soon but it will still be a little while before she gets to see the babies. Please pray that her recovery goes quickly and that she will get to see her sweet little ones really soon!!! Pray for her heart and anxiousness in the meantime.

Geoff said that have been trilled with the staff and are loving the care that the Quinn and Riley are receiving!! What a blessing for them to know their little ones are being loved on so well. Praise God for how well they are all doing!! Pray that Quinn will come off of oxygen quickly and graduate from the NICU and that Riley will continue to do fine without assistance or intervention. Moving forward, pray that Riley will put on weight well and that she will come home quickly as well.

While Brenna and Geoff would love to see everyone as soon as they are able, please give them call before coming to the hospital.

Big News!!!,

Well, it has been an eventful past two days and it has come down to the fact that we will be delivering the twins tomorrow morning by C-section at Richland Hospital. We saw on Tue. that Riley has not really grown but a few ounces in the past 3 weeks, this combined with looking at her blood flow through her umbiblical cord let us know that while she is not in huge distress she is not thriving and could become more distressed. I got a steroid shot on Tue. and another today to give their lungs a boost. I am just over 34 weeks and things should be fine, but we will have some small babies. Quinn looks to be a little over 5 lbs and Riley just over 3 lbs. The C-section is scheduled for 7am (we have to be there by 5am).
We will have someone posting information throughout the day tomorrow so you can check back in to see what is happening with everyone. I will just say that later I will have to share the many ways that we have seen the Lord at work in all of this and we are so very much at peace with the fact that He is in control. As we left the Dr. office today I said to Geoff, "I'm glad the we know the Lord is in control of all of this because we certainly are not!" We appreciate your prayers, love, and support and are looking forward to introducing you to the newest members of our family...
