7 Months

Quinn and Riley were 7 months old on Saturday! I just can't believe how big they are getting. They seem to grow up a little more everyday. I can tell they have both really gained weight this month with the addition of solid food to their diet. They are eating sweet potatoes, green beans, squash, peas, apple sauce, bananas, pears, prunes, and yogurt. They sometimes make funny faces with a new food but there hasn't been anything that they just won't eat. Riley has her 2 bottom teeth coming in and Quinn has an upper tooth breaking through as well. Teething is not a lot of fun! I just feel so bad for them and find that they do not nap well when they are teething. That makes it worse because then they are tired and cranky too. This too shall pass. All part of growing up! See how long they are. It's crazy to think that puppy was bigger than Riley and as big as Quinn. Quinn has also learned to roll from his back to tummy so he will roll to get all over the place. Riley does this little inch thing where she pushes herself across the ground with her feet. So while they aren't crawling, they can definitely move! For the past month they were both in size 2 diapers, that's over as they were getting too small on Quinn so he's on to size 3! It was nice for awhile to just buy one size!

It's getting harder to take their picture together. They don't just sit still where you put them anymore, it's tricky!

Riley gives the biggest smiles these days and is such a happy girl! Most of the time!

See those teeth, if you let him he will put your finger in his mouth and bite, watch out!

Haley is really taking more of an interest in them lately. They play on the floor and she comes over to see what's going on. Sweet puppy. Haley is also 6 years old this October. Happy Birthday Haley!

Happy 7 months sweet babies of mine. I know you first and foremost belong to the Lord, and I am so thankful He has entrusted me to be your mother! I love each and every moment I get to spend with you!

We've Been Busy...

We went to the pool one last time over Labor Day weekend. The water was a little chilly and Riley was not happy about that so she loved sitting back and enjoying the nice weather.

Quinn let me take him in the water, he said "I can handle it."
Riley does this funny thing where she looks at her hand but goes cross eyed while she's looking. Too cute!
Lots of baths!

Me too!

Lots of yummy food!

Me too!

Cheering for the Tigers with Aunt Jana.

And Daddy.

Riley went with me to a good friends baby shower! The three of us all graduated from high school together and it is so fun to be having our babies together! It was a fun girls day and Quinn stayed home with Daddy.
Riley got to see her twin friends Madison and Luke!
Quinn loves to jump!
And of course some good times playing with cousins! You think Riley can handle this group of boys?!?
So what have you been busy doing?

Sleep, Wonderful Sleep

I was braced for the worst! Riley had been waking up a lot just before their 6 month appointment and I wasn't sure that she was going to adjust very well to me not feeding her at night anymore. I was feeling very sleep deprived only getting 2 hour stretches of sleep at a time (it was like when they were newborns) and since she won't take a bottle no one could help me out. The night of their appointment we went to bed ready for a long night, we were not going to feed her at night, but offer her a bottle of water instead. The Dr. said she would decide that it wasn't worth it to wake up for water and that would help get her off night feedings. I woke up in the middle of the night and she was still sleeping. The next thing I knew it was morning and she had slept through the night.

WHAT?!? I couldn't believe it. In the next week she had about two nights that she woke up and cried for a few minutes but she knew how to put herself back to sleep and quickly did that when she realized she wasn't going to get fed. It was funny because for the first few nights I would still wake up a few times a night, I would think I heard a baby crying but when I would check them on the monitor they would both be asleep. It took a few nights for me to start sleeping good again but what a difference some good sleep makes. I am a new person!

I have been reading Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child by Dr. Marc Weissbluth and have found lots of great information about helping your child sleep well. These days the kids go to bed somewhere between 6:30 and 7:30 pm, I do a dream feed at about 10:30 pm and then they sleep through the night until about 7:30 am. I have always needed sleep and I think I am a much better mother/wife/person now that I am not so sleep deprived!

In other news, our computer has been kinda crazy and slow lately so I just haven't had a lot of time to blog or download pictures but I will work on getting some new pictures posted in the near future! We had our first trip to the zoo this past week, fun time with friends and the kids really enjoyed being outside. Unfortunately I forgot my camera so we will have to go back to take pictures!

Six Month Stats

We went to the Dr. today for their six month appointment.
Here's Riley's stats:
height 23 1/2 inches
weight 12 lbs.
head 16 inches

Quinn's stats:
height 25 1/2 inches
weight 14 lbs. 3 oz.
head 16 3/4 inches

They both are doing pretty good. Riley gained 1 lb. 11 oz. since the 4 month appointment and the Dr. believes she shouldn't "need" to eat in the night anymore so we will start working on eliminating her waking "habit". Quinn only gained 5 oz. in the past 2 months and went from the 25th percentile to the 5th percentile. He wants me to pretty quickly move them from the 1 meal of solids they have been having a day to 3 meals of solids a day. I feel like we are going to do nothing but feeding!!! But hopefully this will help with Quinn's weight gain and we will have a weight check in Oct. They got their flu shot and 2 other shots as well. That part was not fun, it never is, but we all survived! Geoff was able to be there so that helped a lot! He's been out of town a lot in the past week so we are really looking forward to the long weekend coming up and going to the upstate to see the grandparents :)
